    90 is a safe default. JPEG needs a higher number than WebP for the same apparent quality.
    JPEG cannot store transparency, so anything transparent has to become a solid colour. White matches most documents and web pages.

    Animated WebP files cannot be converted. PHP's image library reads only a single frame, so the tool refuses them rather than silently discarding the animation.

    Questions

    What happens to transparent parts?

    They are filled with the background colour you choose, because JPEG has no alpha channel at all. If you need the transparency kept, use WebP to PNG instead.

    Why does my logo now have a white box around it?

    Because it had a transparent background and JPEG cannot represent that. Either pick a background colour that matches where the image will sit, or convert to PNG to keep the transparency.

    Will the file be bigger or smaller?

    Usually a little bigger, since JPEG compresses less efficiently than WebP at the same quality. The result shows the actual difference for each file.

    Is this lossy?

    Yes — JPEG is always lossy. The image is decoded from the WebP and re-encoded, so use a quality of 90 or above if the result will be edited or printed.
